How do Dr's close up after doing brain surgery in the pituitary region?

I know they have to make a small hole in the bone just in front of the p.t. region; the Dr spoke of some drainage after surgery. But will this "hole" be closed up or will it heal over by itself? Does anyone know what I'm talking about ?
